Another local goodie that I've been to before but with the recent change in menu I headed back...Does it still meet my high expectations? Read on to find out!
Located in sleepy old Mount Waverley, this cafe has a pretty cool decor and staff with skylights throughout to let the natural light in for the perfect Instagram photo. The atmosphere wasn't exactly pumping which is expected due to its location but service was standard for a local spot.
ON TO THE FOOD - we shared the Sriracha Maple Glazed Bacon (Smashed avocado, lemon and coriander, sourdough bread, poached egg) for savoury and this dish worked surprising well due to the sweet spicy play with the bacon. I'm still not used to spice in my brekky but damn...it was good with the maple syrup to tone it all down. Avocado was also a welcome addition to freshen things up in between bites. My only complaint was that the bread was quite soggy with the placement of the bacon to blame - probably best placed on the side rather than on top to prevent maple ruining the crispy toast.
The wow factor for this cafe though is the dessert. WOW to the blueberry waffles (Mandarine curd, maple roasted pears, raspberry coulis, coconut and apple crumble) since the literally tasted like a blueberry muffin in waffle form. Crispy on the outside was a slight welcome bitterness from the toasting and a soft fluffy inside - exactly like a muffin. The spun sugar really got my tastebuds going at the start as it makes the dish stand out SO MUCH - but really doesn't add much to taste. Saying that nothing was too over whelming on it with the waffle being savoury enough that the multitude of sauces don't make it too sweet and instead shine against it.
WORTH A VISIT IF YOU'RE IN THE AREA with plentiful tables and no wait - why wouldn't you? :P
