Came to look at engagement party venues and ended up also indulging in brunch - I reckon that's got to be the best use of the saying 'killing two birds with one stone'! Lux Foundry can be found tucked away in Brunswick's factory district but don't be fooled...it is much more than just an old warehouse.
The atmosphere was absolutely buzzing for a Friday morning. The sun was out so the outside patio was full to the brim with fellow brunchers as was inside. Inside it is all high ceilings and exposed brick that really accentuates its history as an old warehouse which brings an old world charm. I loved it and the addition of the greenery to bring some of the outside inside if you know what I mean.
On to the food, I had the Sweet Corn and Manchego Croquettes (Cauliflower puree, grilled chorizo, sauteed spinach, smoked paprika and salsa verde and poached egg). I found that the chorizo overpowered all the other flavours on the plate so it probably didn't need to have as much on the plate as it did. Felt a bit unbalanced as a result. The croquettes were perfect and crispy with the perfect amount of corn, manchego cheese and potato (I would even say the perfect ratio). Salsa verde and cauliflower puree honestly did not need to be there...they were negligible to the other elements of the dish, taking away from its simplicity.
I was also lucky enough to share the Brioche French Toast (Espresso mascarpone, dark chocolate crumb, poached spiced pear, fresh berries, salted toffee) which I feel like is a must have when you're here. I honestly loved the dish because of how it mixed the fresh, sweet and bitter flavours to really excite my tastebuds. The highlights were the strong espresso taste in the marscapone (must love coffee) and the chocolate crumb on the toast that was slightly burnt that really accentuated the bitterness (a good thing), offsetting the sweet toffee. Lowlights were that the poached pear could've done with some more cooking as it was a bit hard and I would've loved more toffee with the dish so I could customise the sweetness more to my taste.
Orange juice was obviously freshly made and the staff were so attentive and friendly that it made the experience feel top notch.
Overall, a beautiful venues with great food. Service is also on point so I see no reason not to stop by this place for brunch if you're in the area or willing to travel. I would highly recommend spending some time here enjoying the sun on a beautiful Melbourne day!
