Riddik, Templestowe Lower 3107

Honestly, what’s there not to love about Riddik? Grungy and hip with an entire menu dedicated to Eggs Benedict…as I said, difficult to fault right?! There is so much more to this brunch spot in the middle of nowhere though so read on.

When you step into Riddik you’ll have an overwhelming feeling that you’ve just stepped into Brunswick or Fitzroy. The interior is fun, modern and ultimately funky. Graffiti walls and pops of colour everywhere. It really moves away from the clean white marbles of your typical brunch and embraces the grunge. The tables offer you a good amount of privacy too and it’s bright and spacious…perfect for groups if you can get a table!

On to the food, savoury for the day was the Crispy Fried Soft Shell Crab Bene (Poached eggs, coriander and mint slaw, chilli hollandaise, black sesame on sourdough) which much like the venue was hard to fault. I loved it, the crab was ultra crispy without overpowering the delicate crab flesh. The hollandaise also worked to enhance the crab too with a kick of spice to keep things interesting. I would’ve loved a bit more of a side salad to get away from the sauce though and freshen up a bit. Bread and bennys can be a hit and miss for me and in this case it was so difficult to eat that I needed to rip it up instead…only major downside though as the flavours were so on point.

Dessert is always my favourite and this was no exception with the Oreo Pancakes (Whipped espresso cream, butterscotch ice cream, honeycomb, marshmallows). They looked a bit odd to be honest as they were so dense and little but once you bite into them that is all forgotten. The pancakes are exactly like a moist chocolate cake which went well with the rest of the elements and really brought some great balance across the board. The creamy elements weren’t that distinct but flavour wise were good. I LOVED THE MARSHMALLOWS…overly sticky and sweet but was a great contrast to the density of the pancake and a good replacement to freshness. Honeycomb was by far the best feature - the bitterness was exactly what was needed on the plate. Highly recommend this sweet dish if you stop by here.

If you’re an Eastsider I highly reckon you should drop by this spot as it is delivery some quality brunch not too far from home and away from the hustle and bustle of the city. You’ll definitely find me back here trying every single benny on the menu! :)
